The three men were accused in September of trying to sell the fake gold coins at a jewelry store in Kinnelon, authorities said.
Bell, 57, of Hillside, William Gary, 52, of Scotch Plains, and his brother, Gerald Gary, 55, also known as Hakeem Shaheed, of the Sicklerville section of Winslow Township in Camden County, were charged in September with theft, theft-by-deception and conspiracy to commit robbery at a store in Kinnelon, authorities said.

As a Canadian, I am glad they got caught in New Jersey. In Canada we just catch and release, they will do serious time in the states.

If they were a they probably would have passed the scale test, and possibly even the calipers if I understand the density of tungston correctly.:realmad:

Nah, here in the states our game laws are the same. We catch, we release, and then they swim upstream. To Canada. :504:

WTF? :confused_m:

I wonder if the authorities also found the stamping press/dies, or if the bozos got the fakes somewhere else.

I haven't heard of fake gold coins using tungsten.

Me either. I may be very naive, but I always assumed that coins were far harder to fake than bars. I look at some of the coins that I own like Kangaroos and Philharmonics and they are so intricate and perfectly made that surely someone with a back yard foundry could not copy them? Surey a fake would be a pretty lumpy alternative to anyone with a knowledgeable eye?

As soon as I heard about the tungston in gold story I swam to the bottom of the lake and bit up all of the coins and bars. They look like crap now but I'm pretty sure they are gold!

I don't get the 'ring' test. My Norwegian fiat coins ring just as fine as my gold coins. Euros, on the other hand, are completely silent. I guess it's a different base metal alloy in those..
